A faltering Reds team made this scheduling possibility a reality when it was determined that four more losses and four more wins by the trailing Pirates would mean the Pirates would take second place and make the playoffs. It took place on October 2 nd, 1920 – during the final week of the season between the Reds and the Pirates. Since 1900 there’s been only one tripleheader played in Major League Baseball. ![]()
